Financial literacy is an important capacity for making sound financial decisions, particularly among students who begin to manage money more independently. The issue becomes more complex for out-of-town students because they must allocate limited resources for living expenses, education, transportation, social needs, saving, and other priorities. This article aims to review empirical evidence concerning the influence of financial literacy on students’ financial management, with particular attention to students who live away from their hometowns. The study employs a narrative literature review. Scientific articles published mainly during 2021–2025 were identified through journal portals and DOI-based searches, while two foundational publications were retained for the theoretical framework. Eighteen references were selected based on their relevance to financial literacy, financial management behavior, and university students. The studies were analyzed thematically by comparing research context, methodology, direction of findings, and factors that may strengthen or weaken the relationship. The synthesis indicates that most reviewed studies report a positive association between financial literacy and students’ financial management behavior, including budgeting, saving, spending control, and investment decisions. Evidence from studies specifically involving out-of-town students also supports a positive relationship. Nevertheless, financial literacy does not automatically produce sound financial behavior because financial attitudes, self-control, lifestyle, digital financial technology, and financial socialization can shape the process. Therefore, financial literacy should be viewed as an important cognitive foundation requiring behavioral and environmental support. The review implies that universities and relevant institutions should integrate practical financial education with budgeting practice, self-control development, and responsible use of digital financial services.
